I have witnessed socio-economic segregation, everyday sexism and ‘unintentional’ homophobia far too often. This is at school, in public and at work in hospitality. These experiences have strengthened my views and feelings towards these issues. Subsequently influencing further to want to do what I can to aim for equality.

From living in Sheffield for 18 years (on two different sides of the city, and attending four different schools) I have met a huge variety of people. I believe this helps me to think about my decisions with regard of the varied young people’s perspectives and challenges that I am aware of.

I believe there is great importance in increasing youth involvement in the shaping of youth services. Because it allows young people to positively influence the way adults make decisions on behalf of them. Given young people are the ones who know the most about their own lives, and those of other young people, this is crucial. This is why I felt as though being a Young Advisor would be a great opportunity to be able to aid others have a voice and help to make changes that positively benefit society.
